Petition Debit card Abuse

More details

Companies take debit card details for payment, and then use the card again to renew the contract.
Others require card details to sample their 'free trail', then use the card for payment once the free trail has expired.

However, many times the customer is not made aware of the policy, or the company ignores the customers cancellation of the free trial.

As the debit card is a guaranteed method of payment, neither the customer or their bank can stop the unauthorised debits. Only the company can.
The customer can continually complain to their bank, and as this is a 'retail dispute', their money will be reimbursed. But this is not a solution. If the company chooses to ignore the customer the money continues to be taken.

The companies should only be allowed to use the cards for the original purpose. If there is a mistake, and after the customer has made a complaint it is reused - it should be treated Fraud, not a retail dispute.
