Petition Woolwich Allow Serving Regular and Reservist troops to carry Defensive Weapons

More details

In the light of the recent attack on a British Soldier by Islamist Fundamentalists I am petitioning the UK Government to amend the 1959 Restriction of Offensive Weapons Act, the 1988 Criminal Justice Act and the 1996 Offensive Weapons Act.

The Law quite rightly allows British Sikhs to Carry Kirpans and Scots to carry Sgian Dubh as part of their dress or Religious customs. This should be extended to all British Serving and Reservist Forces to allow them a defence against Terrorist actions by being given automatic "good reason or lawful authority" and permitted to carry an Extendable Baton, Automatic Knife, Sword Stick, Pepper/CS Spray and/or Electroshock Weapon.

As members of HM Armed Forces are entrusted as a matter of course to carry Firearms in the course of their duty, they should also be permitted defensive weaponry for their own protection.
