Rejected petition Increase Stuart Hall's Prison Sentence

More details

We believe that the 15 month sentence given to Stuart Hall for multiple sex offences against girls as young as 9 is wholly inadequate and does not reflect in any way the severity of the offence or public abhorrence at the nature of the offences.

The CPS should lodge an appeal to increase the sentence, requesting a minimum term of 5 years up to a maximum of 15 years.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Sentences that appear to be unduly lenient cannot be referred through the E-Petitions website. If you believe a sentence given in a Crown Court appears to be very low, or unduly lenient, anyone can contact the Attorney General's office asking for the sentence to be reviewed as long as it is within 28 days of sentencing.

It also only takes one person to make such a request. In the case of Stuart Hall, the Attorney General’s Office has already requested the papers from the Crown Prosecution so one of the Law Officers can decide whether or not to refer the sentences to Court of Appeal as being unduly lenient.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
