Currently many surgical operations and other procedures are carried out in private institutions. Mostly, there are no major problems.

However, when there are complications of surgery that need to be dealt with, private hospitals will wash their hands of patients, leaving the local NHS hospital to pick up the pieces.

If the NHS is expected to deal with complications of private healthcare, then they should be able to bill the private hospital for providing this service.
