We the undersigned call upon the Government to recommend to Her Majesty The Queen, on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee in 2012, that she confer the status of a City upon the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.

For centuries there have been two cities in London - the City of London (The Square Mile) and the City of Westminster. Making Tower Hamlets a City would bring balance to London and recognise this historic, hard working and dynamic part of the capital
