To reduce the use of disposable carrier bags there should be a charge (say 5 pence) at source (manufacturer) which can then be passed on to the retailer who must (by law) pass it on to customers. this will have the beneficial effects of reducing pollution caused by this blight on our environment or will pay for the clean up costs of this & other litter from our roadsides and countryside, reduce death & injury to wildlife and will raise much needed revenue for central/local government.
