Petition Improve cycling safety by making motorists give cyclist 1m of room when overtaking

Whilst cycling on holiday in France I felt completely safe as French motorists are required by law to give cyclists at least 1m when overtaking them.

If the same law was applied in the UK I feel this would improve cycling safety at low cost. As well as encouraging more people to feel safe cycling and thus get the nation fitter and reduce obesity.
