This petition was submitted during the 2019-2024 parliament
Rejected petition Review the class-biased A-Level 2020 grading algorithm immediately.
The algorithm used to determine the A-level 2020 results has heavily impacted young people from poorer areas, schools and disadvantaged backgrounds regardless of their predicted grades. It unfairly lowers their grades, preventing them from accessing universities and socially climbing.
More details
The grades of students attending affluent colleges and sixth forms are more likely to have been increased, whilst the results of students in lower social-economic situations or schools are being downgraded (The Guardian).
As a result, this reflects a view that only the rich are intelligent or worthy of A* and As, undermining the hard work of thousands of students for something beyond their control.
It is classism.
It is wrong.
The government must amend this error immediately.
