We call upon Parliament at the earliest opportunity to legislate to make it a legal requirement that all politicians should have to carry out their duties in a manner which is truthful and with integrity at all times and to make it an offence for a politician to lie, punishable by a large fine and in extreme circumstances a short custodial sentence. This law should apply to MEPs representing the UK, to MPs, Lords, elected members of the devolved bodies, councillors and elected mayors.
