The annual increase to the State Pension and other pensions and benefits should be based on an average inflation figure for the whole of the previous year; not just the figure for the previous September. This would then include any month where inflation was unusually high or low and provide a much fairer and accurate indication of the inflationary trend. The figure for September does not necessarily reflect the figure for the whole year.
