Closed petition Traffic calming measures required in Thornton following fatal accidents
Closed on
Traffic calming measures are required in Thornton village center, to prevent more deaths, following the losses of five young lives.
The main road running through Thornton is straight and wide and is seen as an open invitation by irresponsible drivers to drive at very high speeds through the village center.
Last week a serious accident ended the lives of a 19 year old girl, a 27 year old father of two, and a 32 year soldier, himself also a father.
This took place just metres away from the site of a fatal accident 5 years ago; with speed as a factor; two young people were killed. The speeding continues on a daily basis. The community are sickened by the tragedy and angered by the lack of measures to calm traffic and to prevent these irresponsible drivers from being able to drive through Thornton at high speeds.
