Petition Establish a national waste plastic collection/recycling programme for England

This petition demands a national, unified programme of household and industrial waste plastic collection/recycling, across all local authorities. Independently monitored against annual and internationally comparable targets, the programme should involve public education and communication of results.

More details

The current disjointed system of household and industrial plastic collection/recycling in England is confusing and does not meet public expectation, despite a growing national appetite for recycling and reducing waste. Current policy lacks the transparency, infrastructure and communication needed to create an effective recycling life cycle. The UK should strive to be self-sufficient and in control of its plastic recycling, rather than allowing materials to be sent overseas and to landfill.

What are Westminster Hall debates?

Westminster Hall is the second Chamber of the House of Commons.

Westminster Hall debates give MPs an opportunity to raise local or national issues and receive a response from a government minister. Any MP can take part in a Westminster Hall debate.

Debates in Westminster Hall take place on ‘general debate' motions expressed in neutral terms. These motions are worded ‘That this House has considered [a specific matter]'.
