More details

Reduce 6 week summer holiday to 4 weeks, and give parents the chance to take their children out of school for two weeks during term time (excluding exam time).

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

The government has not changed the law so that it can fine parents who go on term time holiday. The law has changed governing term time leave to make it clear that schools should grant leave of absence only in exceptional circumstances. Whether a school or local authority issues a fine for unauthorised family holiday is down to a local decision.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
