Rejected petition Allow vulnerable/elderly non-Covid hospital patients to receive a daily visitor
During lockdowns, allow a designated family member to visit vulnerable/elderly hospital patients with mental health needs. This rule worked well since the last lockdown ended, and could be supplemented with visitor COVID testing and increased visitor PPE during lockdown without ending all visits.
More details
During the last and the current lockdown, all hospital visitors have been banned. This is very damaging for vulnerable/elderly long-term patients who may be confused or depressed and need daily visits from a loved one to aid recovery. Cheerful, motivated patients get well more quickly than depressed, anxious or disoriented patients, which is better for everyone and saves the NHS money. Additional measures for COVID-security for visitors could be introduced during lockdowns.

Why was this petition rejected?
We can't publish petitions when the request is something that's already happening or something that has been announced since you started your petition.
We think your petition is covered by Government or Parliament action already. If you'd like something else, you could start a new petition clearly explaining what it is.
Under the current national restrictions you are already allowed to leave your home to visit someone who is in a hospital: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-national-restrictions-from-5-november
Visitng policies for individual hospitals are a matter for NHS England and individual NHS trusts, not the Government or House of Commons. You should contact your local hospital to find out what their visiting policy is.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
