Rejected petition Employers don't deduct salaries because of a loan, why do the same to students?
Student finance is a LOAN. Attending university costs almost 10K annually in tuition leaving students with significant debt.
Student parents embark on this journey to improve their long term prospects and the quality of life for their children. However, the current system prevents success.
More details
The DWP considers Student loans as 'income’ when calculating benefit awards forcing students and their children into poverty. Increasing the likelihood, of degree abandonment due to stress- becoming more likely to rely on benefits in the future. Some groups can't work to overcome these issues due to their responsibilities and require financial assistance. If we don't support our students there will be no medics, scientists, teachers, and engineers etc. Not everyone has an equal opportunity.
