Rejected petition Create a Windfall tax for those that have benefitted excessively from Covid-19.
Companies who have benefitted from the Covid-19 pandemic should have excess profit taxed at a special rate. A company that can be shown to have benefitted directly from Covid-19 would pay the standard rate of tax on profit equal to the pre Covid level. But a new rate of 85% on anything above.
More details
We have seen multiple examples of profiteering by certain companies as a direct result of the Covid-19 Pandemic. With excessive prices being charged for even the most basis supplies. PPE being an excellent example. Rather than taxing the majority who are already looking at a bleak foreseeable future, use a windfall tax that only takes into account the excess profit made as a direct result of the current medical situation. Raising revenue and discouraging profiteering.
