Rejected petition Allow all parents (together or not) access to their child’s medical records

Change the law so that GP’s, doctors and hospitals are able to give out a child’s medical records to every parent even if they have split up.

More details

My son was taken into hospital by an ambulance and was in hospital all day but I am not allowed to know from an medical expert what happened while he was there. As a parent you should have the right to all medical information about your child.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Parents who have parental responsibility already have a right to access their children's medical records. This will only normally be refused if the child or young person is aged 13 or over and does not give consent for this information to be disclosed.

You can read the NHS's guidance on accessing children's records here: https://www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/nhs-services-and-treatments/can-i-access-someone-elses-medical-records-health-records/

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
