Legally, a 16 and 17 year old person is still a child, despite this age of consent.

At 16/17 years old, you are legally a minor, a child. You are not allowed to purchase tobacco, alcohol, offensive weapons (knives, etc), go to bars or nightclubs, buy superglue, go to strip clubs, and many more. You are to be in full time education,part time education or an apprenticeship; in basic, some form of education, school.
Yet the law currently states that at 16, 17 years old, it is perfectly legal for these children to engage in sexual relations with 18+ adults.
