Rejected petition Overturn Russell Group decision to ban no detriment policies

No detriment policies are more vital than ever given the impact of the past 10 months on students. The Russell Group should not be able to ban universities from implementing NDs on an institutional level. Many students have had to complete their studies through 3 lockdowns and they need support.

More details

Russell Groups should not have the power to implement this decision across all of their member universities since they have no idea of the individual circumstances of each university's conditions let alone every individual at the institution.

The government should demand that the decision be overturned and restore autonomy to each university so that they can act within the best interests of their students.

Students need academic support and a no detriment/ safety net policy guarantees this.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Decisions about university teaching, assessments and exams are a matter for individual universities, not the UK Government or Parliament.

If you have concerns about your university's arrangements for teaching and assessment you should raise these with your university or the Office for Students, which regulates the higher education sector.

We understand that the current situation is stressful for many people, including students. Student Minds, a mental health charity for students, is collating guidance and developing resources to support students experiencing stress as a result of the current situation, which you may find useful: https://www.studentminds.org.uk/coronavirus.html

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
