Rejected petition Get blood sugar meters and test strips issued on prescription
Rejected on
Allow people who have Type 2 diabetes to have prescriptions for blood sugar testing meters, lancets and test strips.
Currently it is a postcode lottery depending on where you are and the surgery as to whether they issue you with a blood sugar meter and test strips/lancets on repeat prescription.
I was told by my surgery that they would not do this as it is too expensive, however I have found via a diabetes support group on social media that many do get a prescription.
I spent money on a meter and lancet as I have to test 6/7 times per day, but the needles and strips are costly at around £40 per month which I cannot afford.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.
Decisions about what to make available on prescription is a matter for individual NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups, not the Government or House of Commons.
We could accept a petition calling for the Government to fund free blood sugar meters and test strips for people diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, if that's something you would like to happen.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
