Petition VED - Vehicle Excise Duty - Tax Disk - Tax Disc - Road Tax

Scrap VED and replace it with a moderate increase in petrol duty:

Advantages
•It would not be possible to avoid payment
oDVLA would no longer have to administer millions of records
oPost Offices would similarly have less administration
oLaw enforcement would no longer have to police VED
oThe courts would no longer have to hear VED cases
oMillions would be saved on a year by year basis from the above, which could offset the increase in petrol prices
oForeign drivers would contribute towards this tax
•Proportional taxation: 4x4s, gas guzzlers and those who use the roads more would buy more fuel and hence pay more tax. Less frequent users with low mileages or fuel efficient vehicles would pay less
•Infrastructure is already in place to collect tax through petrol sales, so no extra cost in implementing this new system

Disadvantages
•The increase in fuel prices. However, given the massive ongoing savings from above this should only be a relatively small increase
