Rejected petition Remove ALL police powers, in the British Peelian tradition.
Remove all police powers, allowing police only those powers of citizens, and protect this status in law, preventing the creation of new police powers.
This should include removing the powers introduced in the Investigatory Powers Act.
More details
It has become readily apparent that the police in this country have massive overreach, and are asking for yet more overreach.
British Policing, as an institution, is founded on the Peelian Principles. One of these principles is that "the historic tradition that the police are the public and that the public are the police". That the police have powers that the public do not have is clearly not in line with this historic tradition.
