Plastic is not bio-degradable and does not break down after use.One plastic bag takes up to 1000 years to break down and the UK alone uses 17.5 billion plastic bags a year.Plastic breaks down very slowly and can contaminate water which in turn contaminates fish and animals that are used for human food so it gets into the food chain.Fish and animals are also killed by plastic bags in large numbers.The government should stop plastic packing being used as a compulsory measure or find a way to dispose of plastic efficiently.
