Petition Reintroduce Military service

To reintroduce a form of National Service for school leavers of at least 2 year's duration to take place from the moment they leave school or trades college/6th form college and before they go to permanent jobs and/or further education, e.g., university.

Year 2 to include a tour away from home (Northern Ireland, Germany, Cyprus, Gibraltar etc) or deployment. After initial training, all personnel to undergo a secondary trade (plumbing, IT, electronics, electrical repair, mechanics, building, engineering etc).

Emphasis initially to be based on a transferable skill base but concentrating in later stages on possible future careers, including further service in the military.

Upon completion of National service, a bounty paid to the equivalent of 2 weeks pay per year served. If a contract is signed for further military service, a bounty of 1 months pay per year served is paid.
