Rejected petition Anchor a cruise liner in the English Channel for accommodation and processing.

Cruise liners are currently being sold off cheap. One or more could be purchased and anchored in the English Channel to provide both accommodation and processing facilities

More details

People crossing the channel are placing an intolerable strain upon Council resources. Were those seeking immigration by unconventional means to be given accommodation on board ship and with ready access to legal assessment their cases could be dealt with promptly and without the disruption and expense to which Councils are currently exposed.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you want the Government to establish offshore processing capacity, and your petition refers to people entering the UK by "unconventional means", but we're not sure exactly who you want to be processed at these new facilitites. It's not clear if you want offshore processing facilities to be used to process all asylum seekers, or immigrants who have entered the UK through illegal means, or some other group of people.

Additionally, how to establish any offshore processing facilities would be an operational decision for the Home Office, so we couldn't accept a petition calling for a cruise liner to be used for this purpose, but could accept a petition calling for offshore processing facilities to be established.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
