Midwifery is underfunded undervalued and has undergone a complete change in the last 30 years.
There needs to be a recognition of the invaluable input of such health professionals in the first week of life. With an ever increasing number of births due to a number of factors funding for training of midwives must be increased and better mechanisms instated for resolving ground level problems / whistle blowing on a non fault basis.
