Closed petition Adoption pay should be equal to Maternity Pay
Closed on
I would like the government to look at the difference in maternity pay versus Adoption pay.
Adopters do not receive the 6 weeks at 90% pay like a mother who has given birth.
Considering that the government are trying to encourage adoption I don't feel this is a good start.
It would work out cheaper to pay the 90% of an average wage than to keep a child in foster care for the 6 weeks.
I appreciate mothers need time to get over the birth of a child but an adopter needs time to build a bond with there new child that has been placed with them.
I would like the government to look at the policy's for Adoption and Maternity pay and make them equal for all as we are all trying to do the same thing in raise a family and adopters should not be penalised for doing this.
