Because the UK State Pension is one of the lowest State Pensions when compared to those in Europe and as a percentage of final salary/wage. Most people only have a State Pension on which to live and are finding it hard to manage on what they receive now - especially following the recent, big rise in Council Tax and the cost of petrol, food and utilities.
