Petition Rename August Bank Holiday Miners' Day

More details

We oppose the plan to change the name of the August Bank Holiday to Margaret Thatcher day.

We ask for the name to be changed in honour of our coal mine workers.

Historically, the miners have been the backbone of industry in this country, driving the Industrial Revolution whilst facing incredibly dangerous working conditions.

We believe that this is a much more deserving case for the tribute of an honorary bank holiday.
