Rejected petition Universal credit to pay upfront childcare costs

When returning to work or starting a new job and you are claiming universal credit, you are expected to pay up front for your childcare, normally a months fees. Universal credit will then pay you back up to 85% of the cost after you have paid.

More details

People are being forced into borrowing the money to pay the fees to enable them to work. This is leading to people getting them selves into debt and causing the family to live in poverty. Or parents make the decision not to go back to work, this will make it harder to get back to work when the children are older.
Parents that want to work should be supported with this payment. Being in work helps support the family, improves mental health and creates good role models for children.
