Rejected petition UK govt to make geothermal energy the principal supply of clean renewable energy
The UK govt to undertake the largest investment in UK renewable energy in our history.
More details
The average UK geothermal gradient is 26˚C per km depth. Drilling 4km bore holes across the UK gives steam heat water 24/7. 1 borehole can feed 4000 houses. This means, that for the 23million homes only 5750 bore holes would be required (100/county). UK land mass is 245000km so one bore hole every 60km. Industry could be provided with power. Heat and electric. Old mineshafts are a rich source of heat too. These are renewable the life of each bore hole is expected to be 100 years each.

Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. We're not sure whether you want the Government to take responsibility for energy generation using geothermal energy, or provide financial support to industry to develop this.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
