Rejected petition Give social service workers the power to make arrests.

I would like to propose the idea that social care workers are given the power to make arrests on the suspicion of child abuse/neglect/maltreatment.

More details

Social care workers should be given the power to arrest people on suspicion of child abuse. Far too many children are failed by this service resulting in traumatic affects on life quality sometimes fatality. I have witnessed first hand the affects of both child abuse and poor social service work. No child deserve to be abuse or neglected by their caregiver or to be failed by the system. Social care workers should be prosecuted with the abusers if they have not worked the case effectively.

We can't publish petitions when the request is something that's already happening or something that has been announced since you started your petition.

We think your petition is covered by Government or Parliament action already. If you'd like something else, you could start a new petition clearly explaining what it is.

Social workers already have a power of arrest under the general provisions of s24A of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE):

Section 24A sets out when a ‘person other than a constable’ can make an arrest without a warrant – what’s commonly known as a ‘citizens arrest’.

The Ask The Police website gives a brief summary of how s24A works:
