Petition Public Enquiry into the Flood disaster in Somerset
More details
There is a need to establish why the views of local people in Somerset have been ignored for many years, despite their widespread knowledge and understanding of the causes of flooding and how to deal with it.
This issue goes to the root of the democratic deficiency, and has implications for all UK voters.
Those responsible in the Environment Agency are hidden away, unaccountable and take no responsibility for their actions and there is no remedy for voters.
Those supposedly empowered by a democratic process, including local MPs and local councilors, appear to be as impotent as their constituents to influence change.
We call for a Public Enquiry to bring these matters out into the open for the benefit of democracy generally
