It is embarrassing and demeaning to have our MPs, who often have to queue for seats, and Ministers, slouching, squeezed on all sides, balancing papers on their laps, sitting on the floor in the aisles, following outmoded and ancient rules of debate in a physically divided chamber designed to encourage battle rather than constructive debate. We need a modern debating chamber in the round where each elected representative has a seat, desk space and up-to-date communications at his/her fingertips.
