It is clear that building on a large scale without fully evaluating effects of loss of natural water drainage is further exasperating the devastation caused to lower lying areas eg developments upstream in major cities only pushes the problem further downstream. Until dredging and other measures are put in place any planning applications for major housing developments on green field or green belt should be suspended
