Petition Using our armed forces to assist with weather conditions

I am writing to ask why the government is not using the Marines and the Army to help with the dreadful situation for the people that are flooded.
They could also be used to monitor the properties that are at risk of theft.

When our service men and women are not on combat duty, they have nothing specific to do, I know from speaking with my son who is a Marine who has said that they could be utilised to help with this terrible situation, they are being paid, so give them something to do to help our own people!

Please could you reply to me in regards to this please as I do not understand the logic of our government when they do not use the resources of our own country.

Or is it that it has to be another country before our own men and women will be allowed to help?
