Rejected petition Protect the independence of the BBC, keep the licence fee model

Stop attacking the independence of the BBC and end all efforts to abolish the licence fee system. Nobody likes to pay the licence fee but the model secures the BBC’s independence from commercial and government interference. Once lost, it can nit be regained.

The licence fee can be reformed but removing the model leads to either a commercial organisation or a government controlled one neither protects journalistic independence. Yes, the BBC needs to be accountable so change it’s governance not it’s funding model.
