Minister Pickles has made an unforgivable slight against the staff of the Environment Agency who have been battling to safeguard people and property in the face of unprecedented weather and government cuts. His comments must have been dispiriting for staff and show a total lack of understanding of the issues (which in part follow government policy) and an irresponsible politicising of the crisis. It demonstrates his lack of leadership and unsuitability to be in government.
