Rejected petition Give parents the right to take their children out of school for 2 weeks per year
More details
We petition the government to allow all parents, whose children have a good school attendance record, the right to take them out of school for a single period of two weeks, once per school year.
Parents and children deserve the right to a family holiday, without being held to ransom by the travel industry.
Children would benefit from the increased experiential learning opportunities which would result from parents being able to afford to take their children on holiday.
Employers would benefit from their employees holiday request being more evenly distributed throughout the year.
Decreased demand for travel during school holidays would result in a decrease in travel costs, which would benefit teachers who have no choice but to take holidays during these times.
Parents would be encouraged to ensure their children attended school, as children with a poor attendance record would not be eligible.
