Rejected petition Change child maintenance policy in regards to partners child benefit.

As it stands the paying parent can have the child maintenance they pay reduced on the grounds of their partner receiving child benefits. This can cause detrimental effects on finances and wellbeing of the residents parent who is the sole care provider.

More details

Action is needed to review the chid benefit reduction policy that effects the amount the residents parent is paid in child maintenance.

A strong recommendation to propose that the paying parents house hold is means tested, because in many cases the paying parent is not the biological father of their partner child/children, the paying parent and partner are in receipt of two or more incomes in comparison to the single resident parent that may not be able to work or can only work part time.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you're concerned about reductions to the amount of child maintenance a non-resident parent is required to pay if their partner is in receipt of child benefit, but we're not sure if you would like the Government to stop these reductions from being made to child maintenance calculations, or do something else.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
