Rejected petition Investigate the rise of tenancy evictions by shared ownership companies

For government to discuss the prevention of evicting families for profit only. For vulnerable families to be offered 5 year fixed term tenancy contracts (to provide a family long term home security) and the discussion of regulating shared ownership companies overall. Housing initiatives are failing.

More details

To raise awareness of this rising issue and action change. Many tenants are being made homeless with the lifting of covid tenancy laws. Shared ownership companies in particular are profiting from this change. Social housing should assist vulnerable families, not instead be making them homeless for profit. The system of social housing is failing the most vulnerable. Parliament needs to look at this growing issue immediately before families are displaced and affected further.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you're concerned about the eviction of certain tenants, but we're not sure if you want the Government to hold an inquiry into evictions of certain tenants, make changes to legislation relating to tenants, or do something else.

There are already rules relating to shared ownership properties. You can find out more about shared ownership here: https://www.gov.uk/shared-ownership-scheme

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
