More details
Shelagh Delaney playwright and scriptwriter was born In Salford on 25th November 1939. Shelagh attended Broughton Secondary school aged 16 she failed her 11-plus,with contempt for traditional, decorous drawing room dramas about the love lives of well-bred people , aged 17 she spent a fortnight furiously writing her debut play A Taste of Honey, this play was to become one of the defining plays of the 1950s working-class and feminist cultural movements. A Taste Of Honey transferred to the West End Stage opening on 27th May 1958 and such was the acclaim it went on to achieve Broadway Success,4 BAFTA and in 1985 Shelagh Delaney was made a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.Sadly on the 25th November 2011 that Shelagh Delaney lost her battle with Cancer. I propose Salford City Council dedicate the day of her birth 25th November as Shelagh Delaney day in the council Calendar..
