Rejected petition Consider context and human behaviour in Section 3 of the Dangerous Dogs Act

Allow context and behaviour of all humans and animals involved in an incident to be part of the allegation process. Also consider qualifications and experience of all involved parties

More details

As it stands the DDA is grossly unaware of WHY dogs behave the way they do. If a person tries to touch them, or shouts, or grabs them, it triggers their primitive 'Fight or Flight' response. And most dogs, due to the evolutionary desire to survive, will face the threat. At the moment there's no recognition of how human behaviour effects dog behaviour, and therefore it doesn't provide a full and rounded picture of the circumstances.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you want to see changes to the Dangerous Dogs Act, but it's not clear what changes you want to be made to this act. Section 3 of this Act creates the offence of failing to keep a dog under proper control, which applies to owners (or other persons in charge of a dog): https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1991/65/section/3

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what changes you would like to be made to this legislation.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
