Rejected petition Change the law to ensure businesses must answer phones within 10 minutes.

I am campaigning alongside the Daily Mail to update the Consumer Rights Act 2015 with a statutory instrument which would give regulators like Ofgem and Ofcom the power to fine firms. Businesses should not be allowed to keep people on hold or create barriers to prevent people making complaints

More details

Bad customer service has become endemic across all sectors since the pandemic and must be stamped out once and for all. As one of the UK's leading consumer rights campaigners, the most common complaint I am asked to help with is the inability to contact businesses. This is having a major impact during this challenging time. There must be a change to the law to ensure good service. We have already seen the Spanish Government introduce a similar law, which proves conclusively that it can be done

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about how to provide customer service are a matter for individual businesses, not the UK Government or Parliament.

We could accept a petition calling for changes to existing consumer protection legislation, but it would need to be clear what change you wanted to be made to this legislation.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
