Rejected petition Endometriosis to be registered as a disability, for all women.

I believe that this condition should be considered a disability just as much as other debilitating conditions such as diabetes, etc. Being limited by your own body is demotivating and the least these women should have is clarity around their condition.

1 in 10 Women suffer with Endometriosis, Endometriosis is formed in different stages & can be found in other areas of the body not just around the womb. Endometriosis limits women day to day because of the pain being unbearable that it can put a lot of limitations on what women can & can’t do. Therefore the condition can be seen as disabling when it comes to basic tasks like movement.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

The Government's guidance on disability under the Equality Act 2010 states that you’re disabled if you have a physical or mental impairment that has a ‘substantial’ and ‘long-term’ negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities:

It is therefore already the case that under the Equality Act, anyone with a physical or a mental condition which has a substantial and long-term impact on your ability to do normal day to day activities is protected under the disability protected characteristic. This could cover people who have endometriosis, where this has a a ‘substantial’ and ‘long-term’ negative effect on their ability to do normal daily activities. So it's not clear what else you would like to happen.
