Rejected petition Give the UK a Bank Holiday on Monday August 1st if Lionesses win Euro 2022

The Lionesses are in the final of a European Championship on Sunday 31st August. Their achievement is extraordinary and they've inspired a generation of girls into our national sport.

More details

A national holiday would demonstrate to the world our country's commitment to championing women's sport, cementing our status as the home of football, and eradicating inequalities in wider society.

Why would such an achievement not be celebrated on the same level as was the case for the men's final last year?

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We understand that you wanted yesterday to be a bank holiday, but it is not too late for the Government to make Monday 1 August a bank holiday.

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to create a new bank holiday to mark England's victory at the Women's Euro 2022.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
