British politican Tony Benn should be afforded a state funeral in recognition of his services to British politics and the high esteem in which he was held.

While considered divisive by many he was a much-loved figure and a staunch defender of human rights, and being divisive does not necessarily preclude one from being the recipient of a state funeral.
