The Government should abolish the existing Care Home Commission and establish a National Care Home Inspectorate (NCHI) to ensure minimum standards are maintained in all UK premises looking after the elderly and infirm. Money saved from the abolition should be used to establish the NCHI and members of the public should be invited to serve as Inspectorate members.
