To improve dramatically, the time it takes to re-open a motorway after and accident.Often a motorway is closed to facilitate the recovery of vehicles clear the road surface and for the police to investigate

would it not be feasible to use railway style barrier gates, that could be used to close off the entry slip roads (by the police) to reduce the number of vehicles caught up in the backlog of traffic.
