Rejected petition Include transgender people in the Equality Act

Reconsider scrapping transgender people from the equality act

More details

The government are calling to remove transgender people from the equality act. This means that trans people would have no legal protection from discrimination and would lose basic human rights.

Without this protection, trans people could be denied jobs, healthcare, even housing. We cannot let the government strip trans people of their rights.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action. We understand that you are concerned about the possibility of legal rights for trans people being reduced, but the Government has not announced any plans to change the Equality Act, or remove legal protections for trans people.

It has been reported that the Government may look to amend the Equality Act to make it clear that sex means biological sex rather than gender, and we could accept a petition calling on the Government to commit not to making this change.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
